If you are looking for a video study course to teach you how to play guitar at home then you should consider the Gibson Learn and Master study course. I have been a guitar player for 35 years and a instructor for about 20 years. In my opinion, this study course is the best home learning study course for the guitar that I have seen.

To start with, the instructor, Steve Krenz is a very good and professional instructor. One of the main negatives of teaching by video is that you are not able to talk with the student and help them out with a particular part of guitar playing that they might be struggling with. Krenz gets around this difficulty by firstly moving at a speed that is perfect, not too fast for students but also not too slow which could get monotonous. The majority of video study courses are guilty of going either too fast or slow but this study course is perfectly paced.
The content is very good, all the simple music theory is integrated without becoming a chore to learn and the main focus is on the fun part, the guitar playing. There is everything integrated in these lessons to enable a complete beginner to become a good guitarist with around 30 minutes to an hour spent every single day.
The actually superb thing is that the study course is delivered with jam-along CDs.
